Evans Cherry
Prunus cerasus 'Evans' H: 12' W: 6' Zone: 3 Self-pollinating. Selected in Alberta! Showy white flowers before leaves in the spring followed by large, red, sour cherries in summer that are excellent for baking and preserves. Good for fresh eating if you like tart. Requires full sun and well-drained soil. Very hardy for this climate. A heavy producer! Can be messy if fruit allowed to drop but the small size of the tree makes it easy to gather all fruit. Tendency to sucker. Suckers can be removed or left to form large shrub instead of small tree if desired. Yellow fall colour. |
Romance Series Prairie Cherries
Prunus kerrasis 'Cupid', 'Valentine', 'Crimson Passion', 'Romeo' & 'Juliet' H: 9' W: 4' Zone: 3 Series of cherry trees selected from Evans Cherry for sweeter fruit and tidier form.
